Three full days devoted to game drives in the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve — Kenya's finest wildlife destination. Packed lunches allow maximum time in the reserve. The Mara almost guarantees sightings of large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, hippos, gazelles and buffaloes, while the predator cast includes lions, hyenas, cheetahs and leopards.
The Great Migration · July–October
From July to October, witness the spectacular 1,200km migration of over one million wildebeest, several hundred thousand zebras and countless Thomson's gazelles. The dramatic Mara River crossings — where gazelles fall prey to massive Nile crocodiles — are among Africa's most extraordinary wildlife events.
There is also the opportunity to visit a Maasai village — meeting the tall, red-clad Maasai people in their traditional bomas (optional extra, $10pp). Keep an eye out even for smaller animals: a profusion of birds and colourful lizards hide in every bush.
Day by day
- Day 4: A full day of game drives on the central plains for lion, elephant, buffalo and herds of zebra and wildebeest, with a packed lunch at the hippo pool.
- Day 5: Drive toward the Mara River and the open plains beyond for cheetah, leopard and, from July to October, migration crossings.
- Day 6: A final morning game drive, with an optional Maasai village visit in the afternoon, then sundowners before dinner at the lodge.
